Our purpose is to seek and guide the lost who have experienced incarceration

We show men and women how to understand God’s love for them and that they are built to worship God and be in a community with others. We guide them through recovery to a fruitful life free from addictions, afflictions, and compulsive-behaviors and to eternal life as a disciple of Jesus. A calling to truly help, a heart for the lost as in Luke 15.

The Fresh Start Ministry Discipleship Team executes our mission by introducing prisoners to God’s love and community while they are in prison, and when released, provide them access to recovery programs, transitional assistance, a church family and mentoring, all while discipling them to lead a Christ-centered life.

How do we bring hope?

hope for the inmate

An inmate’s life can be a hopeless place. Frustration, anger and worry can become overwhelming. Fresh Start Ministry brings the true hope of Jesus Christ and prisoner’s learn to use their time in jail to build and strengthen their relationship with God and others in community.

hope for the familiy

The families of prisoners often live their life on hold. They ‘do time’ right along with the inmate. Our ministry brings hope to the family, knowing that their loved one has the ongoing support necessary to walk a new path upon their release.

Our Mission is About

Discipleship

As a believer in Jesus we are actively called to make disciples. Our definition of a disciple comes from Matthew 4:19.

A disciple is one who is: following Jesus, being changed by Jesus, and committed to the mission of Jesus.

Discipleship takes many practical forms. Fresh Start Ministry is highly aware that we need to meet prisoners where they are. We take a whole life approach, not just spiritual teaching, but life-on-life guidance. These men and women need life tools, mentoring, physical needs such as a job and transitional housing, as well as spiritual guidance. Through meeting their current needs we “earn the right” to disciple them as a follower of Jesus.

Church involvement

Welcoming churches are a critical resource for those returning to the community.

Contact us to speak to your ministry team or congregation about what prisoner’s need as they approach their release date, and how the local church can support, encourage, and empower them.

Many inmates feel shame or ostracized from the community as they make that transition back into life on the outside. The church can make that transition easier
